During the week of Feb. 20-26, police arrested 31 motorists for DUI. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents. One was younger 21.

During the week of Feb. 20-26, police arrested 31 motorists for DUI. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents. One was younger 21.

The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 18; South Hilo, seven; Puna, four; North Hilo and South Kohala, one each.

So far this year, there have been 210 DUI arrests compared with 170 during the same period last year, an increase of 23.5 percent.

There have been 206 major accidents so far this year compared with 216 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.6 percent.

So far this year, there have been four official traffic fatalities, compared to two official fatalities during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 100 percent for official fatalities. There also have been two road deaths this year not officially counted by police since one occurred in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the other happened on a private road.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
